Aspiring webcam models were extorted from Cómbita prison

Webcam models deceived and extorted. Men and women between 18 and 23 years of age aspiring to be part of the industry were victims of a gang posing as agencies.

A total of 17 people reported the threats and scams of supposed studies, however, these were false profiles created by a gang led by an inmate of the Cómbita prison in Boyacá.

The victims were recruited through social networks and were promised a payment of approximately $100 per hour for working on a sexcam. The job they were supposed to do was to make transmissions for Asian users.

In this sense, in order to be selected they had to present a "casting" in which they were asked to submit photos and videos. Once the material was sent, the extortion by criminals.

One of the victims interviewed by Noticias Caracol said that she was threatened with showing the material to friends and family and publishing it on social networks if she did not hand over 3 million pesos (US$778).

"Don't try to block me or even run away from your responsibility or I swear I post this video and these naked images of you," this was one of the messages sent by the offenders to the hopefuls.

Law enforcement investigation

In response to complaints from aspiring webcam models who were deceived and extorted, the security forces initiated an investigation that lasted 10 months and in which it was determined that it was an organized gang headed by alias "Sebastian", inmate of the Cómbita prison.

A large number of cell phones were found in the offender's cell. With these communication devices they published the supposed job offers and communicated with the victims to carry out the extortion.

Similarly, thanks to the elite investigative group in charge of the case, it was possible to find the capture of three (3) women in Caldas, Antioquia and Meta. The criminals were in charge of receiving the extortion money led by alias "Sebatián" from prison.

Colonel Gustavo Camargo, deputy director of the Unified Action Group for Personal Liberty (GAULA), informed that both women and alias "Sebastián" were charged.

In view of the situation, a call was made to people who aspire to be webcam models; to corroborate the legality of the studio or agency to which they will send intimate content.

This is due to the proliferation of bogus organizations that disseminate their alleged job offers social networks and that have the sole purpose of attracting people in order to then extort money from them.
